Hi, my name is Ivy Shaw and I’ve been an English teacher for 4 years, both online and in-person. I’m passionate about helping students improve their language skills by making lessons engaging and practical. Whether it’s through reading, writing, speaking, or listening, I focus on real-world applications of English that my students can use in their everyday lives. I believe in creating a supportive learning environment where everyone feels comfortable to ask questions and make mistakes. I pride myself on providing clear feedback and adapting my teaching methods to meet the individual needs of each student.
I am a patient and supportive English teacher who focuses on providing consistent feedback to help my students improve. I emphasize the practical use of language, ensuring that my lessons are not only informative but also relevant to real-life situations. I adapt my teaching style to meet the needs of each student, making sure everyone feels comfortable and confident in their learning journey. By breaking down complex concepts into simple steps, I aim to make learning enjoyable and effective, fostering an environment where students can grow at their own pace.
- Lessons are carefully planned based on each student’s goals and adjusted as they make progress.
- After every class, I give feedback to help them improve.
- I always try to explain difficult ideas in simple steps and focus on using language in practical, real-life situations.
- Correcting students in a way that teaches, not discourages.
hobby:In my free time, I enjoy reading books and learning languages like Spanish and Italian to broaden my understanding. Traveling and exploring different cultures also inspire me. Painting allows me to relax and stay creative, while playing volleyball keeps me active and reminds me of the importance of teamwork—something I bring into my teaching as well.
Like Books:I grew up on Harry Potter and Diary of a Wimpy Kid, but later fell in love with classics like Kafka’s Metamorphosis and Dostoevsky’s The Double.
Like sports:In high school, I was a cheerleader and gymnast, and in university, I played volleyball, which I still enjoy with my friends to this day. I also love jogging and ice skating whenever I get the chance.

Dear Ivy, oxford phonics 2 will finish soon,do you think she can continue to learn book 3 ?I found book 3 seems a little difficult for her now ,what other lessons you advise that suit for her now to learn?

外教:ivyshaw 回复:
Hi! I think Oxford Phonics Book 3 will be a good choice for her because it focuses on vowels, which are important for learning how to read and say words. Before starting the book, you can tell her that some letters are not pronounced. For example, in the word "tape": t - /t/, a - /eɪ/, p - /p/, and the final e is silent. She is doing great so far, and these small tips will help her even more. I also recommend other phonics books like Phonics Kids (2a, 2b, 3a, 3b), SmartPhonics, Learning English in American Kindergarten Textbooks, and Fun with Phonics Natural Spelling. These books are helpful because phonics are the first thing a child should learn to get familiar with the language and reading. :)

Hello,Ivy!How is Anthony doing in the class? He didn't let me join his class.lol

外教:ivyshaw 回复:
Hello, Anthony did really well today. His reading is great, and he completed the exercises with ease. He could pay more attention when answering questions from the Discussion section on page 41, such as "Have you been praised?" and "What is your most memorable praise?" Overall, he was excellent! :)
