Hi, my name is Ivy Shaw and I’ve been an English teacher for 4 years, both online and in-person. I’m passionate about helping students improve their language skills by making lessons engaging and practical. Whether it’s through reading, writing, speaking, or listening, I focus on real-world applications of English that my students can use in their everyday lives. I believe in creating a supportive learning environment where everyone feels comfortable to ask questions and make mistakes. I pride myself on providing clear feedback and adapting my teaching methods to meet the individual needs of each student.
I am a patient and supportive English teacher who focuses on providing consistent feedback to help my students improve. I emphasize the practical use of language, ensuring that my lessons are not only informative but also relevant to real-life situations. I adapt my teaching style to meet the needs of each student, making sure everyone feels comfortable and confident in their learning journey. By breaking down complex concepts into simple steps, I aim to make learning enjoyable and effective, fostering an environment where students can grow at their own pace.
- Lessons are carefully planned based on each student’s goals and adjusted as they make progress.
- After every class, I give feedback to help them improve.
- I always try to explain difficult ideas in simple steps and focus on using language in practical, real-life situations.
- Correcting students in a way that teaches, not discourages.
hobby:In my free time, I enjoy reading books and learning languages like Spanish and Italian to broaden my understanding. Traveling and exploring different cultures also inspire me. Painting allows me to relax and stay creative, while playing volleyball keeps me active and reminds me of the importance of teamwork—something I bring into my teaching as well.
Like Books:I grew up on Harry Potter and Diary of a Wimpy Kid, but later fell in love with classics like Kafka’s Metamorphosis and Dostoevsky’s The Double.
Like sports:In high school, I was a cheerleader and gymnast, and in university, I played volleyball, which I still enjoy with my friends to this day. I also love jogging and ice skating whenever I get the chance.

Hi, ivy! He's not very good at using the sentence patterns of singular and plural forms. How can we make him understand them better? Do you have any good suggestions? Looking forward to your reply!

外教:ivyshaw 回复:
It's important for him to understand that in English, singular and plural nouns exist, but in Chinese, they do not, so that's a key difference. To practice, you can use: counting (one book, two books, three books...), flashcards (one apple, two apples), and the Singular and Plural Song. You can also use one toy to demonstrate singular and plural nouns, and he should repeat after you before doing it himself. Additionally, he can play a game where he places or writes singular nouns in one circle and plural nouns in another, so he can see the difference between them. It will take time to fully understand, but he should start getting familiar with it.

Nice to see you again!Thank you for your notes,I read it every time. It is helpful for my child’s revision, especially when you include the English definitions of the new vocabulary words. This is very beneficial for Jacque's review.

外教:ivyshaw 回复:
Thank you for your kind words! I’m really glad the notes have been helpful for her revision, especially with the vocabulary definitions. I will continue to provide explanations for each word to make sure Jacque gets a clear understanding. Also, I will be opening more classes for next week later today. See you soon! :)

Hi, teacher! Today I reviewed the pronunciation of the letters you taught. Thank you for your course summary and suggestions on pronunciation practice. It makes me feel that learning English is an easy thing and I'm very happy. I'm looking forward to seeing you in the next class!

外教:ivyshaw 回复:
Hi, I'm so glad you're finding learning English easy and fun! Don't worry if your pronunciation isn't perfect; just remember that the way we pronounce English sounds is not the same as in Chinese. Your pronunciation will become fluent over time with a lot of listening, watching cartoons, singing songs, and having fun! See you! :)
